Heat warning in effect for Medicine Hat, Cypress County

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for much of Southern Alberta, including Medicine Hat and Cypress County.

Temperatures are expected to soar to 36 degrees Celcius today and those hot temperatures are expected to persist for much of the week.

Residents are advised to precautions such as rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler parts of the day, and to take frequent breaks from the heat.

Environment Canada also advises people to drink plenty of water and avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages to maintain hydration.

Symptoms of heatstroke or heat exhaustion include; high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness,

Heat warnings, according to Environment Canada are issued when very high-temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
