Precipitation impacting some Alberta crops while Southern crops improving
EDMONTON, AB. — In spite of continued precipitation across the province over the past several weeks, overall crop growing conditions are looking positive.
Conditions are 78 per cent good to excellent, compared to the five-year average of 64 per cent.
The farming areas hardest hit by weather events are in the North West, Peace Region, and in the western parts of the North East area of the province, where condition ratings are down. Continued rain has created excessive surface soil moisture for these areas.
Only the Southern area has escaped excessive moisture, with just 20 to 30-mm of rain, compared to 80-mm in the central and northern areas.
