Canadian Pacific (CP) had its best-ever quarter and June for moving grain products.

CP’s Vice-President Sales, Marketing Grain and Fertilizers Joan Hardy said the two records are the latest in a standout crop year for the company.

“The collaborative relationships CP has built with its customers, combined with responsive rail service, have contributed to another quarter of record-breaking grain movements,” Hardy said in a media release.

In the second quarter, CP moved 8.41 million metric tonnes (MMT) of Canadian grain and grain products. This broke the previous record of 7.9 MMT in the fourth quarter of 2019.

CP moved 2.76 MMT in June, which broke the record of 2.4 MMT set in 2014.

Six students have been awarded the first-ever G3 Grow Beyond Scholarship.

G3, in partnership with Agriculture in Classroom Canada, offered the scholarship for the first time to students embarking on a post secondary education. As part of their applications, students were asked to submit a video essay describing how they would bring innovation to agriculture.

The videos were posted online, and members of the public were invited to vote for their favourites with more than 10,000 votes cast. The results of the public voting formed part of the score arrived at by a panel of judges who narrowed the field down from 79 applicants.

The six winners were selected from across Canada including Julie Sharp and Reid Blashko of Alberta, Mackenzie Van Damme from Saskatchewan, Rachel Teller from Manitoba and Nadia Clement and Matthew Sterling from Ontario.

The students are each being awarded a $4,000 scholarship, with $1,000 donated to each of their high schools.

The videos of all the applicants are available for viewing at g3growbeyond.org.

Nominations have opened to fill four positions on the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission (SaskCanola) eight-member Board of Directors.

The nomination package is available for download on the SaskCanola website or by calling the SaskCanola office.

Deadline to submit nominations is 4 p.m. on Sept. 18.
