The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) wants samples of spring harvested canola and flax.

CGC oilseeds manager Veronique Barthet said it will be part of a research project. CGC will analyze the crops and assess the late harvest impact on quality and functionality.

Barthet said farmers will receive information to help them market the weather downgraded product.

Over two million acres of crop were left overwinter in Saskatchewan and farmers have been busy harvesting in recent weeks.

Agriculture Canada’s wheat export expectations may be difficult to reach.

The Sask Wheat market outlook said even with adjusted numbers, ending stocks are at five million metric tonnes which puts export calculations on the high side.

Canadian Grain Commission report to week 41 only reached 13 million metric tonnes which works out to be much lower then the projected 18 million metric tonnes for the crop year.

The report recommended liquidating old crop wheat and holding on to new crop for the time being.

The news comes after a trade mission to Israel in 2018, where government officials met with the company to highlight opportunities in Saskatchewan.

The agriculture minsters from Canada, Mexico and US spoke yesterday as part of a continued dialogue on the pandemic.

Marie-Claude Bibeau said they discussed the importance of sustaining uninterrupted food and agriculture trade.

The leaders also emphasized their commitment to a smooth and effective transition to the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) which takes effect July 1.
