The Alberta government released a distribution plan to enable agriculture to submit personal protective equipment (PPE) orders.

Most agricultural retailers are no longer stocking PPE and reports indicated farmers were having a hard time accessing critical PPE and cleaning agents as seeding season approaches.

It’s not known how quickly the equipment can be accessed given that seeding and spring harvesting operations are already underway in many areas.

Agriculture ministers from Canada an Mexico discussed uninterrupted food supply, trade and labour during a recent call.

Marie-Claude Bibeau spoke with Victor Villalobos to emphasize the the importance of collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The leaders acknowledged food and food products are essential to safeguarding the health of consumers and stressed the importance of reliable food production systems. They confirmed their continued support of the integrated supply chain.

Bibeau said the temporary foreign worker program provides needed support and labour to Canadian farmers and processors, and creates wages for Mexican families.

She said Canada will continue to work with Mexico on the program, while respecting Canada’s public health guidelines to ensure the health of all workers and halt the spread of COVID-19.

Farm Credit Canada (FCC) board of directors has a new chair.

Jane Halford has held various leadership and advisory positions over her career and has been an active FCC board member since December 2014.

The term of her appointment is four years, effective immediately.
