The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) said it’s working to ensure both stable beef production and trade during and following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a news release, CCA stated there were no fundamental changes to the export and import of food and livestock related to the outbreak.

There have been no reports of livestock being infected with COVID-19, nor any evidence to support that domestic animals can spread the virus.

CCA said beef producers should continue normal bio-security measures on their operations and exercise good hygiene practices by washing hands and disinfecting surfaces often.

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is happy with the increased dollars for initiatives and programs announced in the provincial budget.

Municipal revenue sharing increased by $27 million. SARM President Ray Orb said RM’s will receive $79 million.

“As we are all experiencing in these challenging times, reliable internet is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity,” Orb said in a news release. “Our economy and the livelihood of Saskatchewan residents and people worldwide is uncertain. We are grateful of the support provincially and federally to help everyone through this unprecedented situation, and we will continue to work on behalf of rural municipalities.”

Orb said additional funding for the Rural Integrated Roads for Growth program to $15 million will assist with additional bridge funding.

The provincial government will contribute $244.3 million to Business Risk Management programs offered under the federal-provincial Canadian Agriculture Partnership.

The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) has elected its new board of directors.

The new president is Bob Lowe from Alberta while Reg Schellenberg of Beechy, Sask. will serve as vice president.

Lowe takes over from David Haywood-Farmer, who moves to the position of CCA past president.

The election was held during the recent CCA annual meeting held in Ottawa.
