The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has cancelled the licenses of three Toronto-based companies tied to a massive meat recall.

Ryding-Regency Meat Packers as well as two others operating under St. Ann’s Foods are no longer allowed to slaughter animals or prepare meat products.

CFIA said it made the decision after it found it had received false or misleading information from the licence holders concerning E. coli lab results.

The agency launched an investigation in September after it determined some products could be contaminated, but there were no reported illnesses, according to the latest update on the recall on Nov. 6.

It’s believed roughly 900 beef and veal products were affected.

Louisiana farmers have collected more than $180 million from President Donald Trump’s multibillion-dollar bailout package.

The program was implemented to help farmers hurt by the United States’ trade war with China.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) figures show more than 75 per cent of that aid went to Louisiana soybean farmers.

But some are questioning whether to continue to grow soybeans next year since the federal aid isn’t offsetting all their losses.

When Trump boosted tariffs to force China to change trade practices, China slapped a 25 per cent tariff on American soy products in 2018.
