Agribition 2019

Agribition boasts high quality livestock

Nov 27, 2019 | 2:00 PM

Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) purebred beef events are underway.

The interbreed competition saw top-quality animals competing head-to-head with other breeds in the show ring.

CWA director Barry Young said this is truly an international show. He said CWA has invested time and money into promoting the event world wide.

“We’re lucky that Agribition is considered an international event. We had a young man from Scotland that was one of the judges in the First Lady Classic. He complimented Canada on its wonderful show cattle of all breeds and made the comment that it’s easy to see why Canada has the position it does in the world beef trade with the exhibition of cattle he saw at the show,” he said. “Agribition is the place for international marketing.”

The First Lady Champion was a Black Angus heifer exhibited by Poplar Meadows Angus from Houston, BC. The reserve champion was a Polled Hereford heifer owned by Remitall West from Olds, Alta.

The Futurity Champion was a female Black Angus pair owned by Brooking Angus Ranch of Radville, SK. The reserve champion was a Charolais female exhibited by Serhienko Cattle Company from Maymont, SK.

The President’s Classic winner was a Polled Hereford bull exhibited by Haroldsons Polled Herefords of Wawota, SK.

“All in all, the cattle in the show, the champions, were of fabulous quality. Our futurity champion gets to walk in the Supreme Beef Show on Saturday. I think it’s a real tribute to the kickoff of Agribition,” Young said.
