The Ag Transport Coalition says rail car shortages have not been an issue in Western Canada this fall.

The latest statistics show both CP Rail and CN Rail supplied almost all of their rail car orders.

Both railways have boosted shipping capacity, but there was less grain to move due to the prolonged harvest.

An estimated 10 per cent of the crop is still left in the field in Saskatchewan, which works out to about three and a half million acres.

Less grain moving now means there will be more to ship during the winter months and into next spring.

The coalition includes the Alberta Wheat Commission, Canadian Canola Growers Association, Canadian Oilseed Processors Association, Inland Terminal Association of Canada, Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers, Pulse Canada, and Western Grain Elevator Association.

The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) welcomed the provinces Growth Plan which provided an economic roadmap for the next decade.

SSGA President Bill Huber said he is excited about the goals to increase livestock cash receipts to $3 billion and to double the meat processing and animal feed value-added revenue to over $1 billion.

He said the group supports the plan to develop export markets.

Saskatchewan is the second largest beef producer in Canada with over two million beef cattle and 30 per cent of the Canadian beef herd.

High school students will learn firsthand about careers in agriculture at Canadian Western Agribition (CWA).

The thinkAG Career Expo allows students to experience what a career could be like in different agricultural sectors such as agronomy, food development, agribusiness, research and innovation, and agricultural trades and technology.

High school students from Wadena, Kelvington, Yorkton, Kelliher, Regina and surrounding communities will attend CWA from Nov. 25 to 28.
