Farmers in the Quill Lakes region have faced either drought-like conditions before their first rainfall in June or had fields that have been under water since flooding in 2011.

The issue now is snow in the fields as farmers in the area are either hoping for a quick melt to resume harvest or face waiting until spring in order to finish up.

Quill Lakes area farmer Dwight Odelein said crops left in the field include flax and canola.

The east central region has 82 per cent of their crop combined which is eight per cent below the provincial rate at 90 per cent.

Axereal has announced the purchase of Cargill’s malt business on behalf of its subsidiary, Boortmalt.

The acquisition makes Boortmalt the world’s leading player in the production of malt.

Cargill Malt includes 16 malthouses in nine countries and nearly 600 employees with a total production capacity of 1.7 million tonnes.

This will bring the total capacity of the Boortmalt Group to three million tonnes with 27 malting plants on five continents. The headquarters of Boortmalt will remain in Antwerp, Belgium as well as the R&D centre, making the Antwerp malthouse the biggest in the world.

Saskatchewan’s love of football and agriculture is coming together in a new partnership.

The Canadian Western Agribition and the Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced they’re teaming up ahead of the show’s 50th anniversary next year and the 2020 Grey Cup in Regina.

Gate admission on the first day of Agribition – both this year and next – will be free, courtesy of the Roughriders.

The partnership will also see the Roughriders participating more in the livestock show, with things like fan contests and player appearances.

To accommodate next year’s Grey Cup festivities at Evraz Place, Agribition has also already planned to push back next year’s show.
