A Saskatoon agricultural real-estate agent is listing what he said is one of the biggest farm lots currently for sale in the country.

Darren Sander is working to sell the listing that combines three farms in one sale, totalling 23,800 acres.

Sandor said he was contacted by the “anchor farm'” to sell the land, and two neighbours decided it was also the right time to sell and the land became a bundle deal.

The buyer has the option to purchase all three together as one farm or the three different farms separately.

Sandor said the lot received much attention and led to offers coming as far as the southern United States.

Probiotic alternatives to antibiotics could improve the competitiveness of the Canadian swine sector.

Scientists from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, University of Guelph, University of Manitoba and the Prairie Swine Centre are investigating the effectiveness of different types of novel alternatives to antibiotics.

Dr. Joshua Gong, a senior research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, said the goal is to find alternatives that can replace antibiotics in feed to promote pig gut health and improve pig growth performance.

Gong said a migration away from the use of antibiotics means the industry can be more competitive in the domestic and global market.

A documentary web series that gives a rare glimpse into agriculture is now in its second season.

Real Farm Lives looks at the day to day operation of Canadian farms.

The project was launched by Croplife Canada to allow an urban audience a unique opportunity to see a family farm in action.

In its second season, viewers meet Alberta-based farmers Matt and Tara Sawyer, their three teenage children and Nova Scotia-based farmers Philip and Katie Keddy, their two children, and Philip’s parents. Sawyer Farms grows wheat, canola and barley, while Charles Keddy Farms focuses on strawberry plants and sweet potatoes.

Both seasons are available for viewing here.
