Federal Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau has announced that she will seek re-election for the Liberals in the Quebec riding of Compton-Stanstead.

She was elected as member of Parliament in 2015 and was appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food this past February.

The Conservative’s agriculture critic Luc Berthold will also be running for re-election in his Quebec riding of Mégantic-L’Érable.

Canadians go to the polls Oct. 21.

The Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (Sask Wheat) is currently seeking nominations for three positions on its board of directors.

To be eligible to sit on the board you must be a registered wheat producer which means any producer who has had a Sask Wheat check-off deducted since Aug. 1, 2017 and has not requested or received a refund of check-off in the last fiscal year ending July 31.

The nomination deadline is tomorrow at 4 p.m.

There are changes coming to Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations for livestock identification and traceability.

Proposed regulations indicate producers will be required to report livestock movements and death of animals in seven days rather than 30.

Producers can begin to prepare for the proposed regulations by ensuring they have a valid premises identification number, updating their Canadian Livestock Tracking System account, beginning to report movement of animals and learning more about the traceability requirements for livestock producers.
