Prairieland Junior Ag Showcase Results

Saskatoon’s premier 4-H event concluded on Monday with the steer sale.

The Prairieland Junior Ag Showcase featured roughly 300 4-H youth between the ages of nine and 21 competing as individuals and as teams.

Competition centered on light horse, beef, dairy, sheep, showcase of arts, team grooming and junior judging.

The grand champion steer was shown by Cade Bartel with Carlton Trail 4-H Beef. It was purchased by Tim Hortons, Saskatoon and Success RV, Watrous.

Colby Wignes of Viscount 4-H Beef had the Reserve Grand Champion Steer. Prairie Meats of Saskatoon bought the steer for $2.75 per pound.

The sale average was $2.77 per pound.

The champion market sheep was shown by Addison Pain with the Medstead Multiple 4-H Club Prize. It was purchased by Norheim Ranching of Saskatoon for $1,100.

Maria-Ray McNabb also with Medstead Multiple had the reserve champion market sheep which was sold to Smokehaus Meats and Deli, Martensville for $550.

Prairieland Park Agriculture Manager Lori Cates said it’s an event she always looks forward to.

“It continues to be an absolute pleasure to host this amazing group of 4-H members for this annual event,” Cates said in a news release. “The quality of animals, the ability of the participants to care for and show their animals, and the examples of camaraderie and sportsmanship we see with these kids is remarkable.”
