The Quill Lakes region received a lot of rain over the last week. It was welcomed by farmers that have productive fields.

Dwight Odelein farms just east of the town of Quill Lake and has been involved with the Quill Lakes Watershed Association. He said rainfall varied from three and half to four inches.

Odelein said the lake level did come up a bit but overall the lake is down about 50 centimeters from its peak in the spring of 2017.

A Charlolais Cross steer took top honours at the Melfort Ag Society Regional 4-H Beef Show and Sale.

16-year-old Justin Harcourt is with the Tisdale 4-H Beef club and he was the proud winner of the Grand Champion award showing his 1,500 pound steer named Cruze.

Justin has been been showing steers his entire 11 years in the 4-H program. He plans to be involved in the 4-H program as long as he can.

A benefit concert for livestock producers affected by the Argo fire near Biggar was a success.

The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) said the concert raised over $75,000. The event, part of the SSGA’s Wildfire Relief fundraising campaign to help those producers affected by the fire, included live and silent auctions and a performance by Saskatchewan musician Chris Henderson.

The mid-April fire burned over 22,000 acres of pastures and damaged over 75 miles of fence.
