Clubroot is spreading in Saskatchewan.

It`s important to implement practices to reduce the risk and lower the severity in areas already affected.

Sask Ag Extention Summer Student Paige Straf said monitoring for clubroot should begin in the summer.

“Pick 20 plants at five different areas of the field to watch for clubroot gull symptoms, scout fields where above ground symptoms are present,” Straf said.

ideal places to scout are at field entrances, historic yard and garden locations, or low areas of the field where moisture is high.

Straf said one of the best ways to prevent the spread of clubroot is by implementing a three to four-year crop rotation.

The USDA released its crop acreage report last week.

U.S. corn seeding came in at 91.7 million acres.

That was down only 1.1 million acres from the March report. With the cool, wet weather in the states it was expected there would be a decline of up to 12 million acres.

U.S. soybean planted area for 2019 came in at 80 million acres, while all-wheat acres were at 45.6 million.
