Canada's Farm Progress Show

New events for Farm Progress Show

There will be some changes to Canada’s Farm Progress Show in the coming years.

Regina Exhibition Association President and CEO Tim Reid said 20 stakeholders were brought in to discuss what they thought should be the direction of the show.

“One of the things we recognized was our business is different with the inclusion of the ITC (International Trade Centre) and the new stadium on the grounds. People want different things,” Reid said. “As we start to look to our strategic plan for the next 15 years we realized we had to understand what Canada’s Farm Progress Show was going to be.”

Reid said one of the first changes will be moving the dates to a mid-week show. Starting in 2020, the show will be Tuesday to Thursday instead of Wednesday through Friday.

“Starting the first day a little bit later to give people more flexibility, bringing more entertainment and options to the table as well as innovation and disruptive conversations that will hopefully help us be more creative in the industry,” Reid said. “I think for us what’s really been interesting is to shift our focus on three key pillars; innovation, education and collaboration.”

Another new addition will be live entertainment.

“We found this great opportunity around bull fighting that’s going to be unique. It’s not like a traditional rodeo, it’s more upbeat but there’s also lots of room for corporate hosting. There’s also opportunity for the public to come in and check out the show which brings in more people from an education component.”

Reid said this will be the last year for the antique tractors.

“We went through every program on site and evaluated them and I think you’ll see some other programs that will transition.” Reid said.

The next farm progress show will be Tuesday, June 16 to Thursday, June 18, 2020.
