The Meadow Lake 4-H Beef Club showed off their hard work recently at the Meadow Lake and District Arena.

There were 25 members of the 4-H Club, ages ranging from six to 21, brought in their cattle for judging in the 69th annual Achievement Day.

In a crowded competition, Quinn Tallmadge won the grand champion award in the steer competition with his black Angus – Klondike. Ian and Dalton Wasden from Spiritwood judged Klondike to be the best among 17 other competitors.

Tallmadge has been grooming Klondike since September. “I put a lot of work into him,” Tallmadge said.

Tallmadge, 15-years-old, loves working with cows and has been doing it for eight years but the worst part of competing is the writing and record keeping of his cattle.

Casey Ogilvie and her steer – Wilbur, were the reserve winners and took second place.

Braxxton Himmelsbach’s – Alabama, took the grand champion prize in the heifer category. The 14-year-old said it felt good to take the top prize.

“I’ve been doing it since I’ve been able to work on the farm,” Himmelsbach said. “It starts with their trust.”

Alabama will be going to the pasture for the summer and then Himmelsbach will be bringing her back for competitions in the fall.
