Stock Growers discuss weed control

Continued use of strychnine poison for gopher control and funding of mandatory semi-truck driver training were among resolutions approved at the Saskatchewan Stock Growers semi-annual meeting last week.

President Bill Huber said delegates also passed a resolution asking the province to provide funding for weed control in community pastures.

“There’s a real concern over leafy spurge in some of these community pastures and it’s really hard to control,” Huber said.

Leafy spurge is a perennial that can become an aggressive invader. It reproduces primarily by re-sprouting from its creeping root system, but also by seed. It is extremely difficult to control.
