The longhorns are back in town

Nov 19, 2018 | 4:00 PM

The Texas Longhorns are back at Canadian Western Agribition(CWA).

It’s been 24-years since the breed was last featured at the show.

Kris Johnson, with I.M. Bar Longhorns from Big Horn Wyoming, brought seven animals to Regina. Johnson and his father Toby run 30 head of registered longhorn cattle at their hobby farm.

One of the longhorns is named Jim Reeves. He weighs approximately 860 kilograms. Horn tip to horn tip measures 110.5 inches

Johnson said he enjoys raising longhorns because they are unique.

“You can pass a hundred fields of all black cows and every field will look the same. You pass a field of longhorns and they really catch your eye,” Johnson said. “They are so docile, a really calm breed of cattle.”

“When I say they are a lot of fun, I mean, they’re enjoyable to be around and we really enjoy raising them and they all have their own personalities.”

This is the ninth show for the Johnson’s this year, and their first time in Regina.

The Texas Longhorn show is Monday, Nov.19, with the sale Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
