Average year projected for insurance claims: Crop Insurance Director

Nov 7, 2018 | 2:00 PM

The Executive Director of Insurance with Sask Crop Insurance said he expects an average year this year in terms of claims, despite some challenges from Mother Nature.

Darby Warner spoke to farmnewsNOW, one week ahead of the deadline for producers to submit their yield declarations.

“The harvest this fall was challenging beyond belief, it just went on and on. So lots of people are dealing with tough and damp grain,” Warner said. “Overall I think yields though were a pleasant surprise in most areas.”

The deadline for producers to submit their yield declaration is Nov. 15.  Warner encouraged producers to remember to include the net bushels of their crop, as well as the grade of that crop.

“If they can get that grading done before they contact us, that definitely helps in case they are in a claim position. Because producers are covered for both yield and quality of that crop,” he said.

Warner said he expects to have a finalized number of claims submitted by early December.
