Saskatchewan potash company Agrium Inc. has been ordered to pay $490,000 in fines in connection to a work place accident that happened at the company’s Vanscoy mine over two years ago.

The case was heard at Saskatoon Provincial Court on Wednesday.

Agrium pleaded guilty to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, for failing to provide a safe working environment.

The accident occurred on Aug. 21, 2016. A conveyor belt was started, and a worker was struck in the abdomen by a cable that was not secured. The worker was seriously injured.
