Nutrien lays off employees at Vanscoy mine

Aug 2, 2018 | 5:55 AM

Nutrien has announced a round of layoffs at its Vanscoy potash mine.

In a release issued Wednesday morning, the company said it was eliminating 30 staff and 50 hourly positions from the site, located about 40 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.

The move was described as part of a “rebalancing of Nutrien’s overall potash production.”

The company said laid-off workers would get severance packages and would be offered opportunities to transfer into between 50 and 70 jobs expected to open up at other Nutrien mines in the province.
