Technology meets industry at Farm Expo

Jul 17, 2018 | 5:30 PM

There is no shortage of things to see at the Ag in Motion Farm Expo this week near Langham, including the latest in farm technology.

There is a large grain cleaner on display that resembles a large candy dispenser; the latest crop disease solutions; and the “ultimate livestock water bowl.” Kyle Rock with Advanced Agri-Direct was showing off Cancrete, a water bowl that does not freeze up, rust or corrode. He said he enjoyed hearing feedback from farmers who already own the product.

“It’s nice to hear when a guy says it was 30 below and the water did not freeze up,” he said.

In addition to the air seeder and tillage demonstrations, people can also watch the drones in action. Markus Weber with LandView Drones said he was there to gather ideas as much as he was to sell the product.

“What I find is different about this show, compared to other shows, is people are here to both buy and learn. They are not here to browse,” he said.

Weber has started a drone school,.where people who have purchased a drone can learn what the regulations are and how to use the drone to its full potential. Webber said in his experience adoption rates are still low when it comes to drone technology, and it is the leading edge farmers  are the ones buying them to help better understand their crops.

“What the monumental shift will be when we go from just mapping relative areas of crop health to actually diagnosing what the problem is,” he said.

The Ag in Motion Expo continues Wednesday and Thursday.
