Tisdale farm equipment dealerships sold to Calgary-based company

A major farm employer in Tisdale is under new ownership.

John Bob Farm Equipment has been sold to Rocky Mountain Equipment (RME), a Calgary-based dealer. RME has acquired two John Bob dealers in Saskatchewan, in Tisdale and in Outlook.

The company started in 1980. John McShannock said farms are getting bigger and it was time for a bigger dealer to take over. The operation was a family one for McShannock, whose son and son-in-law also worked at the Tisdale location.

McShannock said he plans to retire and do more fishing now that the sale is complete.

“We decided to get out because the economy is changing, and you just have to be in a much larger format to look after your employees and your clientele,” McShannock told farmnewsNOW. “Farms are getting bigger and we felt we had to get bigger to compete with the rest of the big dealers and to service our customers properly.”

John Bob Farm Equipment currently employs between 60 and 70 people, McShannock said.

“I think over the past 38 years we’ve been treated so well by our customers and our employees and I hope that continues,” he added. “I’d just like to thank all our customers for the past support.”

With the sale of John Bob Farm Equipment, RME now owns six locations across central Saskatchewan, and 36 throughout the prairies.
