Kipling bacon festival supports the community

Jun 12, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The small community of Kipling will be sizzling this weekend as the annual Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival gets underway.

Everything bacon-related will be on the menu at the annual event June 16. The family-friendly festival will also feature activities for kids and musical entertainment.

Some of the food featured at past events includes bacon butter tarts, bacon tiramisu, bacon-wrapped shrimp, bacon fudge, and bacon roasted over an open fire. The Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival is now in its sixth year.

Scott Kearns is one of the founding members of the festival. He said the event started as a way to raise money to fix up the local youth centre, and the festival now attracts home cooks and professional chefs to the community of about 1,200 people.
