Apr 4, 2018 | 5:32 PM

The federal government is investing nearly $2 million to help poultry and egg producers manage risks against potential outbreaks of disease.

Among the funding announced is $318,500 to the Poultry Insurance Exchange Reciprocal of Canada to develop Avian influenza insurance for hatching egg producers in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada made the announcement Wednesday.

Canadian poultry and egg producers generate more than $4 million in farm cash receipts, the federal government said, and are key contributors to the national economy.
