Changes for Regina farm show

Officials with Canada’s Farm Progress Show are calling the event a huge success.

Manager Shirley Janeczko said the weather played a part in the number of people touring the show.

“We had a fantastic three days. The rain definitely helped to bring our farmers in out of the field so our exhibitors seemed pretty happy at the end of the day,” Janeczko said.

The International Business Centre saw an estimated $357 million in sales for the three day show.

“That’s money that’s tracked from our international buyers so we’re pretty excited about that. We continue to grow our show internationally as well,” Janeczko said.

There were over 900 registered international guests from 54 countries with 250 qualified buyers from returning countries like Ukraine, Kazakstan, Russia, Germany and Australia.

There were a dozen countries that attended the show for the first time including Japan, Ethiopia, Sudan, Philippines and Azerbaijan.

The 2020 show will have even stronger focus on innovation and collaboration with elements like the Innovation Launch Pad and Alpha Bull Rodeo.

Dates for next year will shift to a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday format to allow exhibitors an additional day to move out prior to the weekend. The first day of the show will also see the hours shift from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to allow attendees to take care of business on the farm in the morning before coming to the show.
