Ag roundup

Agriculture roundup for Tuesday, October 1

Oct 1, 2024 | 11:17 AM

Some good news for grain farmers.

Grain should start being shipped out again very soon, as grain terminal workers reached a tentative deal in Metro Vancouver on Saturday

The deal will be voted on by Friday, with the Grain Workers Union.

Workers returned to work in the meantime, while waiting for the deal to be ratified.

The provincial election campaign is officially underway, with voters going to the polls Oct. 28.

The Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association has sent a letter to both the SaskParty and NDP about their stance on a variety of cattle-related issues.

CEO Grant McLellan said there were a wide range of questions laid out to both parties, including livestock price insurance, the major irrigation project, the Marshals program, and more.

McLellan said they get feedback from both the producers and the board on what issues they want dealt with.

The board continues to lobby on many of those issues, said McLellan, and many of the issues have been persistent.

The organization wants to know from both parties whether the issues are in their official platforms.

McLellan noted they have good relations with both the SaskParty and NDP, and both parties have had representatives at many of their events.

McLellan said the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association is a non-partisan organization.
