Grande Prairie, AB. – The October 6 crop report from Alberta Agriculture says 82.9 per cent of the Peace Region crop had been combined as of that date.

That is well ahead of the five-year average of 55.5 per cent and the 10-year average of 66.9 per cent.

The report says ideal harvest weather led to the quick progress and that 40 per cent of the harvest was done in a week.

Crop quality is reported above average, with 87 per cent of the spring wheat grading Number 2 or better and 50 per cent Number 1.

Thirty per cent of the barley is malt grade and 54 per cent Number 1 for feed, 86 per cent of the oats is in the top two grades, and 97 per cent of canola is in the top two grades, with 76 per cent Number 1.

Peas came in at eight per cent Number 1, 71 per cent Number 2.
