Guidance on crop protection product use

Apr 9, 2026 | 1:36 PM

Canada’s agriculture sector depends heavily on international markets, with up to 90 per cent of canola, more than 80 per cent of wheat, barley and oats, and 85 per cent of pulses exported each year.

To help protect those markets, the Keep it Clean program has released its 2026 Product Advisory for growers and crop advisors to learn about potential market risks tied to the use of some crop protection products on certain crops.

The annual advisory provides insight into product and crop combinations that could pose market access risks, helping growers make informed decisions and protect the marketability of their crops.

Cereals Canada Director of Crop Protection and Production Krista Zuzak said it’s important information as the requirements in export markets, like maximum residue limits, can change from year to year.

“The 2026 Product Advisory provides growers and crop advisors with the most up-to-date information on crop protection products that can create market risks in various crops,” Zuzak said.

While preparing for the upcoming growing season, Keep it Clean encourages growers to review the 2026 Product Advisory and discuss any crop protection products that are flagged on the Advisory with their grain buyers.

A Product Advisory webinar is being held on May 7, covering key changes to export market requirements. It is for growers, crop advisors and other value chain stakeholders looking to better understand potential market risks before making crop protection application decisions this season.

You can register for the webinar at keepitclean.ca.
