Proudly Ag Conference held in Saskatoon Feb. 5

A big event for the future of farming is coming up soon in Saskatoon.

Sask Young Ag is hosting its Proudly Ag Conference and AGM at the Western Development Museum Friday, Feb. 6.

Executive Director Kaitlyn Kitzan told farmnewsNOW the event is designed to bring together young farmers and younger people involved in agriculture together to learn and network.

“Farming and agriculture can sometimes be so remote and feel really isolating, so it’s always a great opportunity to bring those people together and share their ideas and their challenges, and find solutions together,” Kitzan said.

Kitzan, who used to sit on the organization’s board before becoming executive director, said she met several lifelong friends through the conference, and Sask Young Ag as a whole.

The event opens at 9 a.m. with registration and coffee. Opening remarks will begin at 10, followed by keynote speaker Patti Durand’s address entitled The Future Leader: The Successor’s Guide to Family Business Leadership. Durand will then host a table discussion. A number of other presentations will follow, discussing topics like AI and finances.

The State of the Ag Industry Panel will take place after some networking, and the event will close with some entertainment.

Kitzan encourages anyone under the age of 40 in the ag industry to sign up for the event through Sask Young Ag’s website. She said the event has been taking place for many years and hopes to see about 100 people attend this year’s conference.

“I think the Government of Saskatchewan [realized] that we need an organization that represents our young people in one of our most important industries to this province, and [we’re] happy to continue the tradition this year.”
