Harvest is 42% completed, Southwest leading

Combining, swathing, desiccating, baling straw and hauling bales are in full swing as the 2024 Harvest season is almost halfway done as numbers reach 42 per cent completion by September 2, 2024.

Crops

The report said, “Spring wheat currently sits at 28 per cent harvested across the province and canary seed sits at 19 per cent.”

Winter cereals

According to the Crop Report, large variations in yield estimates are caused by growing conditions for all crop types. This includes dry conditions coupled with high temperatures during key flowering stages in some regions.

Rain

The west-central region received the most rain over the past week with the Marsden area at 60 millimetres, and Neilburg area just shy of that at 57 mm. The report said the Macklin and Unity areas received 50 mm.

High winds and migratory birds have reportedly done the most crop damage.
