Conservation Learning Centre hosts second annual Fall Family Day

Spreading fun and awareness were among the key themes during a special farm event southeast of Prince Albert on Saturday.

The second annual Fall Family Fun Day at the Conservation Learning Centre (CLC) site included a tricky corn maze, horse-drawn trailer rides, a story walk for the kids, and an abundance of local vendors.

Money raised from a special lollipop pull helped support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. CLC Assistant Manager Zoe Galbraith noted the event has grown in size in an attempt to appeal to a bigger group of people.

“We also love our community and we love having community events and inviting people on to the farm so they can see what we’re about,” she said.

CLC is a non-profit registered charity and is part of the agriARM network which is a group of research sites across Saskatchewan that do unbiased third-party agricultural research.

‘We’re kind of unique in the network of agriARM sites in that we do so much community outreach,” Galbraith explained.

One good example of that outreach is an on-site school program that provides students from grades 1 to 12 in the local area with the opportunities to tour the farm in the spring and in the fall.

‘”And we help them make those connections between farm and food using hands on learning activities,” Galbraith said.

Despite some windy, cooler conditions, the families all appeared to be having a great time. Galbraith confirmed that within a few hours, they had already surpassed last year’s attendance numbers.

‘The engagement is growing year to year,” Galbraith said. “We intend to bring it back next year.”
