MELFORT, Sask. – The Canadian Seed Growers’ Association has launched CSGA Learn, Canada’s first online learning platform offering education resources for the seed sector.

CSGA Learn offers 10 comprehensive online courses with each course focusing on a particular aspect of the seed system. Sector experts developed the learning materials based on the official Canadian National Occupational Standards for seed production.

CSGA CEO Caroline Lafontaine said investing in continuous professional development is crucial.

“CSGA Learn provides training options that help fill a void in the Canadian seed sector,” Lafontaine said. “This is a step towards ensuring the seed sector is equipped with people with the right skill sets and knowledge required for a next-generation seed system.”

Lafontaine said Canadian seed growers are highly skilled individuals running complex operations that produce the highest quality seed in the world.

Alberta’s largest beef cattle show returns to a full in-person format.

Farmfair International in Edmonton is back after one pandemic cancellation and a scaled-down version last year.

The event, which runs Nov. 9 to 12, has been one of Canada’s top agriculture shows for nearly 50 years.

Exhibitors from across Western Canada gather to showcase their livestock genetics to purebred producers, ranchers, and international buyers.

The event will close with a new feature, a wrap-up concert featuring Sawyer Brown, Lone Star, Doc Walker, and George Canyon.

In addition to her work with AAFC, she is also an adjunct professor at the University of Saskatchewan, University of Calgary and UNESP University in Brazil.

Dr. Schwartzkopf-Genswein shares her passion for cattle welfare with the next generation of researchers and scientists by mentoring, training and guiding undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral fellows.
