SASKATCHEWAN – The newly revamped Cereals Canada has selected its senior leadership team.

Dean Dias will lead the organization as chief executive officer, with Cam Dahl serving as chief strategy officer.

Cereals Canada merged with the Canadian International Grains Institute earlier this year.

Cereals Canada will now develop a new strategic plan and complete a branding review.

The federal and Manitoba governments will invest up to $2.5 million cost-shared funding in Merit Functional Foods’ new state-of-the-art, 94,000 square foot plant protein production facility in Winnipeg.

The plant will extract protein from both canola and peas with 17,000 metric tonnes of canola being purchased from Manitoba producers in its first year of operation and 10,000 metric tonnes of peas at an estimated value of $14 million.

In three years, Merit expects that amount to increase up to 35,000 metric tonnes of canola and 20,000 metric tons of peas.
