The export opportunities continue for Canadian durum.

The Sask Wheat market outlook indicated Canadian producers delivered roughly 156,000 metric tonnes of durum into the system during shipping week. It brings the year-to-date total to 3.4 million metric tonnes which is 17 per cent more than last year.

Canada’s two largest durum importers are Turkey and Morocco. The report stated both countries are experiencing production problems this growing season.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will receive $20 million in funding for food inspection services.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau said the money will be used to hire, train and equip additional staff, including recently retired CFIA inspectors and veterinarians.

Bibeau said with the additional resources CFIA is ensuring critical services are available to the food sector.

A protocol has also been developed with Alberta to guide the safe resumption of operations in meat processing facilities after the detection of COVID-19.
