Wheat exports continue to rise amid market volatility.

The SaskWheat market outlook reported exports throughout the week were roughly 317,400 metric tonnes (mt). It’s still well below the 448,000 mt of weekly exports needed to reach Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s 18.2 million mt estimate. Total exports are now 9.69 million mt, which is 15 per cent less than last year.

Canadian producers delivered 142,800 mt of durum into the system during week 33 for a year-to-date total of 3.15 million mt, 15 per cent more than last year. Exports throughout the week were large at just under 185,000 for a season total of 3.15 million mt, 42 per cent more than last year.

The report also said COVID-19 will continue to dominate market attention.

The Alberta Wheat Commission and Alberta Barley are investigating whether the groups should amalgamate.

At Alberta Barley’s annual general meeting is December members passed a resolution to complete a comprehensive review of a potential merger. A similar motion had already passed in January at Alberta Wheat’s meeting in Edmonton.

A ten-member amalgamation sub-committee with representation from the boards, delegates and regional representatives of the two commissions will conduct a review.

The two commissions have been operating with a single management team since September 2017.

Co-op said there are no production concerns and they will be able to meet the increased fuel demands of farmers heading into spring.

Federated Co-operatives Vice-President of Energy Brian Humphreys said fuel is positioned through the companies extensive distribution network through bulk delivery or cardlocks.

Co-op began early spring delivery of fuel this month and producers that fill up in March and April benefit from delayed billing at participating local co-ops, which helps them to free up their cash flow.
