Protein Industries Canada has announced its fifth approved Supercluster project.

The project will see $3 million spent to improve the value of fibrous co-products from the pulse processing industry.

The idea is to transform them into an organic micronutrient fertilizer.

The consortium consists of Lucent BioSciences from Vancouver and AGT Foods and Ingredients from Regina.

Lucent will use the hulls of pea and lentil seeds which are a co-product from value-added processing completed by AGT.

Protein Industries Canada and industry have invested more than $70 million into Canada’s plant protein ecosystem.

As many as half of China’s entire breeding pig population died or were slaughtered because of the recent spread of the African swine fever virus.

In recent days, the spread of the disease has also been reported in the Philippines and Greece.
