The Democratic-led U.S. House gave President Donald Trump an overwhelming bipartisan victory on a renegotiated trade agreement with Canada and Mexico.

Passage comes one day after the House impeached the Republican president.

The bill puts in place terms of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. It now heads to the Senate.

House speaker Nancy Pelosi and her colleagues had won key concessions from an administration anxious to pass the deal before next year’s election season.

The deal has yet to be voted on in Canadian parliament.

The National Farmers Union (NFU) sent a letter to the federal environment minister to ask for an urgent rebate on the carbon tax being charged on natural gas and propane for on-farm grain drying.

The NFU said the federal act exempts farmers’ gasoline and diesel purchases to run farm machinery, but it doesn’t provide the same exemption on propane or natural gas.

The NFU said some may resort to using higher-emitting diesel burners to avoid paying the carbon price.

Members passed a resolution at a recent national convention asking the federal government to deal with the issue.
