The opposition raised concerns about the week-long strike at CN Rail.

NDP leader Ryan Meili talked about issues around worker safety and expressed concern about the Moe government’s call for immediate federal action to end the dispute.

Trade and export minister Jeremy Harrison said the labour disruption is costing Canada’s economy $1 billion a week.

Harrison pointed to the major disruption to grain exports and the temporary shutdown of the Rocanville potash mine as reasons for an immediate resolution of the dispute.

The CN Rail strike’s impact on propane shipments isn’t hitting farmers in Saskatchewan as hard as it is in Quebec.

Dave Burdeniuk with SaskEnergy said 92 per cent of the province is served by natural gas and Federated Co-operatives Limited said it mostly uses pipelines and trucks to transport its propane.

Co-op said producers in Saskatchewan are still drying grain with propane but they’re getting fewer as winter approaches.

A propane shortage since the CN strike began has been affecting Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes, with Quebec using more than six-million litres of propane per week.

It’s day two of Canadian Western Agribition.

This morning Premier Scott Moe is taking part in the food, fuel and free trade fireside chat and breakfast at the Chevrolet GMC Arena.

There will also be an Agri-Preneurship workshop, Grain Expo Conference and Trade Show featuring a bear pit session with Agriculture Minister David Marit, the light and middleweight Canadian horse pull finals and Altitude Motocross.

Livestock shows include the Texas Longhorn Heifer Jackpot, Premiere Alpaca show, President’s Classic and First Lady Classic and Futurity, Canadian National Bison Sale and the Texas Longhorn CAN-AM Challenge class.
