The Canadian Grain Commission has released early results from its Harvest Sample Program.

Saskatchewan samples are showing below average quality with reports of sprouting and bleaching.

Wheat is grading at 31 per cent Number One, 42 per cent Number Two and the remaining 27 per cent split between Number Three and Canada Feed.

The numbers will be adjusted as more samples are submitted in the next two weeks.

The samples are submitted voluntarily from farmers and grain companies.

Saskatchewan’s Agriculture minister has wrapped up a successful six day trade mission to Mexico.

David Marit said he’s optimistic about the potential for growth in canola exports and other agriculture products like oats.

“We met with the owners of an oat milling company that produced oat food products,” Marit said. “They buy 100 per cent of their oats from Canada. They are looking at growth and expansion. I see some opportunity there for the flax industry.

Marit said Mexican officials spoke highly of Canadian livestock genetics.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has added more than 50 beef products sold at Whole Foods to the list of roughly 800 beef and veal products recalled due to possible E. coli contamination.

The food safety watchdog has been investigating possible E. coli in some meat products sold by Ryding-Regency Meat Packers and St. Ann’s Foods since late September.

That’s when the CFIA suspended the food safety licence for the slaughterhouse and processing plants, which are both in Toronto.

Potentially contaminated products were also sold at Walmart, Pusateri’s and other retailers across Canada.
