Investigators with Environment Canada have confirmed two tornadoes touched down in Meadow Lake Provincial Park Saturday evening, leaving a path of damage in their wake.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority said three people were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following the storm.

In a provincial weather summary, the agency said one tornado travelled north of Murray Doell Campground and another passed south.

The northern-track tornado was spotted about 15 kilometres northwest of Goodsoil at around 4:30 p.m. on June 29.

The tornado’s preliminary rating on a scale that measures the intensity of wind damage is an EF1, with wind speeds estimated to be around 135 to 175 kilometres per hour.

The federal agency said the southern tornado was spotted at roughly the same time about 10 kilometres northwest of Goodsoil. This tornado was rated as EF0, with estimated wind speeds of 90 to 130 kilometres per hour.

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Prairie and Arctic Storm Prediction Centre (PASPC) also received reports of golf ball sized hail, about 45 mm in diameter.

PASPC teams continue to investigate the tornadoes and not the summary may contain preliminary or unofficial information and is not a complete or final report.
