Three farm families have made the final list for the 2019 Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmers Award.

Jason and Jenna Ranger of Shellbrook farm – 10,700 acres growing primarily canola, oats, wheat, lentils and peas.

Waldheim area producers Scott and Heather Langelaar own and operate a broiler farm with four poultry barns that house 130,000 chickens.

The third nominees are Cody Straza and Allison Squires of Wood Mountain. They own and operate a certified organic grain operation where they farm roughly 2,500 acres and custom graze 100 cow/calf pairs.

The winners will be announced at a luncheon on June 20 during Farm Progress Show in Regina.

The program recognizes young farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession. Nominees must be farm operators between the ages of 18 and 39 who derive a minimum of two thirds of their income from their farm. Each year one farming couple is selected from each of the program’s seven regions to compete at the national event.

Last year’s Saskatchewan representatives were Jennifer and Jordan Lindgren from Norquay.
