1 in 11.2 million: Cow gives birth to four healthy calves

One Saskatchewan man hit the cattle farming jackpot when one of his cows gave birth to four healthy calves at once.

Carman Moxham farms at Leross, which is located west of Kelliher. He told the 980 CJME Greg Morgan Morning Show his “Supercow” Dot accomplished the very rare feat.

“If it was in Las Vegas, I would be a rich man right now. I think it’s one in 700,000 to have it happen and one in 11.2 million to have them survive,” Moxham said.

He said Dot looked like she would give birth to four calves last year but that didn’t happen.

Early on, Moxham had the idea Dot was going to have calves again and it looked like she was going to have more than one.

“Part of the problem we had last year was we just didn’t see it coming, so this year I just made a little special effort, got her up and we put her with my heifers in another barn,” Moxham said.

He said this is the top moment for him as a farmer.

“I’ve had good crops, I’ve had bad crops, I’ve had great crops but this is at the top,” he said, “because this is something that if my mom and dad could be here to see this, it’d be astronomical for them because my dad was a cow guy to and it’s something I would’ve been proud to show them.”
