The groups who help organize and run exhibitions and summer fairs in the province are swapping ideas this weekend in Prince Albert.

The Saskatchewan Association of Agricultural Societies and Exhibitions (SAASE) annual conference is taking place at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre. Executive Director Glen Duck told farmnewsNOW the conference represents a great opportunity for the delegates to network, adding they all face similar challenges.

“You know we are trying to get as many volunteers involved, and funding, but what this [conference] does is gives an opportunity for everybody to talk to each other and find out what everybody is doing in different parts of the province,” he said.

A number of workshops have been scheduled for the course of Friday and Saturday, touching on topics like the sale and service of alcohol at events, and emergency planning. On Friday night, Dale Tesarowski, Executive Director of Corporate Initiatives and Planning with the Ministry of Justice, will talk to delegates about cannabis legalization.

“I think it’s important for everybody to know how the legalization of cannabis is going to affect our….well we run some of the biggest events in the province so how’s it;s going to affect how we run our events,” Duck said.

On Saturday the new SAASE board of directors will be elected. As well there will be a special presentation in the afternoon for the SaskEnergy Volunteer Champions.
